Daniel Mersey's Battle Ravens: The Shieldwall Board Game

Created by Will Townshend, PSC Games

Welcome to the pre-order shop for Battle Ravens! If you missed our successful Kickstarter campaign, you can pre-order Battle Ravens here. The core game includes Norse and Anglo-Saxon armies, and you can add Norman, Scottish, and Welsh armies as additional purchases. Battle Ravens is designed by Daniel Mersey (Lion Rampant, Dux Bellorum, Song of Arthur and Merlin), and the armies are illustrated by renowned military artist Peter Dennis. We expect shipping to take place in April 2019.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Preview of the Anglo-Saxon and Norse playing pieces
over 5 years ago – Fri, Nov 23, 2018 at 05:20:49 PM

From a pre-production copy of the game, here are a couple of photos of the Anglo-Saxon and Norse armies.

At the beginning of the game, each of your shieldwall areas look like this – 3 Hirdmen and 3 Bondi are present in each area.

We’ve also added a photo of the Anglo-Saxon and Norse Thralls, who sneak around behind your shieldwall up to no good!

Taking a look at the prototype pieces and helping us fund!

Good evening/afternoon wherever you may be.

First of all, thank you to everybody that has helped us so far. We are nearly halfway to funding. Please share the campaign on Facebook, Twitter, social media and with all your friends so that we can fund and start hitting those stretch goals!

I wanted to show you a few more pictures of the playing pieces. These may just be a prototype but they look oh so wonderful on the table. A lot of love and effort has gone into the game and it really shows!

Happy Friday backers!

Hello and happy Friday! It's so good to see that the weekend is finally here.

First of all, I hope you had a good Thanksgiving and a good time with your family yesterday if you're in the US and if you're not, I hope you had a good week.

Another HUGE thank you to everybody that has supported us so far, we are edging closer to our funding goal and thank you to everybody that has shared the project on social media!

Along with all of the other amazing Battle Ravens previews, we just got a new one in from Geek City USA and it's wonderful. It's nice to see people all around the world playing and enjoying the game as much as we do. You can check it out below and go give them some love, too.

We hope you have a great weekend playing games or relaxing, and once again, thank you so much for your support. Lets get this game funded and lets start unlocking some stretch goals!

A little note from PSC Dan

If you’re on board as a Battle Ravens backer, I just want to say a quick ‘thanks’ to you. This game is even more special to me than our other Kickstarter projects because it’s one of my own designs, first signed up by Will long before I came to work at PSC Games (I demoed it at UK Games Expo in 2016).

Some of you will already know that I’ve got a bit of a track record as miniature wargame designer – starting with Glutter of Ravens 20 years ago and most recently with a series of rules for Osprey Publishing – but I’m as much a boardgamer as I am a miniatures gamer. I’ve been quietly working away on a number of board games for the past few years, and Battle Ravens will (if the Kickstarter funds!) be my debut published board game.

The Dark Ages/Early Medieval period fascinates me and I’ve had various miniatures games published for this period of British history – Glutter of Ravens, Song of Arthur & Merlin, Dux Bellorum, and Lion Rampant being the best known. If you already know any of my games, it’s most likely one for this period. Let’s hope that Battle Ravens achieves its funding target and can be added to the list…

You’ve probably guessed that I do like to mention ravens in my games (well, at least in two of my games). They are wonderfully intelligent birds and very evocative of the period as they are one of the ‘beasts of battle’ that appear to have followed armies in the hope of easy meals. They frequently feature in the heroic literature of the period, so I’m really pleased to have worked them into a game more formally, featuring as their own playing pieces with an important role to play.

Finally, if you’re not sure why our additional army packs have a slightly unusual MSRP of £10.66 and a Kickstarter price of £7.93, just ask in the comments below!

Thanks again for backing my game.
